ark of the covenant build-up tutorial!! |
This tutorial will go over the steps necessary in building an ark of the covenant once you have acquired all your resin castings, made your trip to home depot for the lumber, and organised your carpentry gear. |
ThE ARK DOES MAKE AN APPEARANCE IN THE CRYSTAL SKULL!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! |
tHESE ARE ALL THE RAW CASTINGS NEEDED FOR THE ARK. |
lET'S START WITH BUILDING THE TRUNK FRAMEWORK. START BY CUTTING YOUR LUMBER TO THE MEASURED SPECIFICATIONS. USE WOODSCREWS TO CONNECT THE PARTS. tHEN MEASURE OUT THE BASEBOARD AND ATTACH THAT AS YOUR BOTTOM. |
finished trunk framework!! |
The wood materials needed. |
Hi, beth! miss u |
Next, CUT EITHER MASONITE, STYRENE, OR ABS AS SHOWN. tHE WINDOWS SHOULD REVEAL THE BEVELED EDGE I SCULPTED INTO THE STORY PANELS. ADHESE THEM WTIH A COMBINATION OF SUPERGLUE, ABS CEMENT AND EITHER APOXY OR BONDO. tHIS CONNECTION MUST BE STRONG!!!! ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE DESIGNS TO METALLIZE. |
now join the sides onto the trunk. Screw them down with 1/2" woodscrews, but also re-enforce using silicon. Clamp the sides down tight against the framework overnite. |
The feet can now be joined onto the trunk using silicon. |
Now we need to create the side posts. in addition to the solid castings, you will need a section of 3" pvc. uSE THE V-CUTS IN THE FEET OR TOP RIBS TO PROVIDE A GUIDE FOR CUTTING THE SLOTTED SECTION YOU NEED. THIS SHOULD FIT FLUSH AGAINST ALL CORNERS AS SHOWN... |
now detail the bottoms of each sotry panel using the bead trim. this needs to be cut to fit. use superglue to attach them. trim the gallery rails on a belt sander. The stave rings are cut sections of 2" pvc. |
the lid, or "mercy seat" is a challenging piece. each half needs to be trimmed separately, joined, then sanded flush, eliminating the seamline. This is the most time consuming part of construction. my next ark will use a vacformed lid which will look the same, but be much less troublesome!! go indy!!!! |
This photo represents gold plated ark components. this is not an easy achievement and very very VERY expensive. i will continue this tutorial using these gold plated parts as samples. |
The traditional method of gold metallizing requires that the parts be placed into a metallizing chamber. this chamber cannot fit parts larger than 3 feet in diameter which limits the process to the sides, the posts , the angles and the gallery angels. the lid must be treated in a separate process. this sample uses a custom painted lid. |
If i needed the ark to be carried along by the staves, i would install a custom shaped iron rod through the body connecting the stave rings. |
The staves A.K.A. POLES, ARE BEDPOST RODS FOUND AT ANY HOME IMPROVEMENT CENTER. they need to be customized by tapering and grooving the ends using a lathe |
